Dessert Recipes from Yorkshire

Ingredients

Yorkshire Pudding - Dessert Version

2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 Tsp Salt
2 Cups Milk
4 Eggs lightly beaten
6 oz Clotted Cream or Heavy Cream
Golden Syrup



Although around the world, yorkshire pudding is recognized as that side dish served traditionally with Roast Beef and covered in rich gravy, it in fact started life as a dessert and then became a main dish as a substitute or to bolster a meal when beef was too expensive for many.

Serves: 6-8
Preparation Time: 20min.
Cooking Time: 30min.

Directions


1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.

2. Add in the Milk whisking until smooth.

3. Follow with the beaten eggs whisking continuously until well blended.

4. Set aside to rest for about 15 minutes while the oven is preheating to 400F.

5. Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking tin.

6. Add cooking oil to the bottom of the tin, just enough to cover.

7. This dish needs to be served immediately it is cooked so about 10 minutes before you need it, place the pan in the oven to preheat until just starting to smoke, about 3 minutes but watch carefully.

8. Give the batter one last stir and then pour quickly into the hot pan, returning it quickly to the oven to bake for about 30 minutes.

9. When ready to serve, cut into large squares and place them in a dessert bowl, top with a good lashing of Double Devon Cream and drizzle with Golden Syrup or maple syrup.
